It seems as if summer is going on for a bit too long to be good for the inhabitants. The sun just won't stop shining and the land of Shamony is clearly in dire need of rain. It's becoming harder and harder to find water and everyone's feeling the heat!

Kipcha Small, but never underestimated.
In summer the trees provided a dappled shade and a welcome respite from the fierce midday sun. It hung in the clear blue sky like a ball of fire; beating relentlessly down on the land. But today that was but a deceiving illusion. In fact, though it looked like it was burning up the ground, it wasn't really doing anything much. Most of the day it was smothered by cloud anyway. Not that I'm complaining. Thought Kipcha. When it got really hot here, she fared worst than most, her black fur absorbing every bit of the heat. But now it was winter, and her fur had thickened out, keeping her warm through the harsh months. The cat's black pelt slid in and out of vision, weaving this way and that through the trees. She was petite in looks, her small frame perfect for disappearing into the night. But do not underestimate her! She is fierce and brave, not afraid to walk through a land where she is the smallest animal for miles. Kipcha yawned, displaying rows of razor sharp fangs. She stretched. This land was hers, and she would protect it till her death. But that didn't mean she had to parole the boarders constantly. Others were doing that, allowing her a moments peace before she had to attend to everyone else's problems. The cat rubbed her back against a tree trunk, leaving her scent lingering. This was the first time she had had to herself all day. rearing up onto her back legs, Kipcha dug her claws deep into the bark, sharpening and strengthening them. With a mighty bound, she sprang up, clawing her way up the trunk to a branch, about twelve feet from the ground. There she lay down, head on her paws and tail hanging limply over the side of the branch. No-one would bother her here.
OOC: not a very good post, i need to get into her character a bit more. xD

Bane
I'm not sorry but I'm too busy to ignore you right now, come back later
Thick clouds hung over Scrubground and all of it's habitants as Bane made his way through the desert like plain. Why had he chosen this place out of all the grounds when he could have gone to the sea or in the mountains? Those areas were full of adventures but here... well there was one oasis and seven oaks on a hill. Clearly this ground was teeming with adventures! Bane rolled his eyes and looked up at the sky. No matter, it would be Spring soon and with that came the harsh responsibility of teaching Scrubground's inhabitants how to live in this harsh environment. That time would be more interesting but for now... well he was supposed to be teaching Scrubground's inhabitants! Bane was not exactly the best of role models when it came to loyalty and duty. He wandered to the seven oaks when he was supposed to be teaching gatherers how to catch food near the oasis and went to the oasis when he was supposed to be teaching the soldiers how to fight. He was the farthest you could get from a role model but hey, he was the only guy around who could do it so like it or not, Scrubground was stuck with him. As he came closer to the oasis, he looked around cautiously. If he was caught here when he was supposed to be teaching the soldiers, he'd get in trouble but as he lifted his nose, he paused. What was that smell he had caught on the breeze? A Scrubground feline maybe? Bane looked around anxiously but alas! He could not see Kipcha in the trees because of their leaves sprouting for the summer. He paused warily and continued on, sitting by the waters and bending over to take in the refreshing liquid. He was far from relaxed though, when you were as well taught as a monitor, you were always on your guard.

Kipcha Small, but never underestimated.
The cat's thick winter fur kept most of the cold out, though occasionally she still shivered when a chilly draft passed her way. Spring would be here shortly, bringing warm weather and new growth with it. Then, she would shed her thick winter coat and enjoy the freedom of food and plenty of juicy prey. There was not much food that she could eat in these lands without breaking the laws: Chip-rats and the occasional fish when she managed to catch one. Of course, to catch a fish she would have to get her paws wet! Though she had gatherers to do this for her, Kipcha always liked to do a spot of hunting now and again. A welcome respite from protecting the Ground members. Warm thoughts of food in her belly, the small feline yawned again and closed her eyes. I think I'll just have a small kip...
Her whiskers twitched. Her ear flicked slightly. Deep in her dream, Kipcha was hunting. A chip-rat sat in front of her, nibbling away on a seed. Perfect. It was too far away for her to pounce straight on it; she would have to edge closer. Without making a sound she slid one paw in front of the other, then froze. The poor chip-rat didn't suspect a thing. Kipcha was within striking distance now. She bunched her muscles, preparing to pounce. She pounced!
Kipcha woke with a start. She lat out an inaudible hiss. just when she was about to catch the chip-rat as well! Now, what was it that had woken her? Ah yes, that was it. Bane. Wasn't he supposed to be teaching? Yes. The answer came to her at once. Of cource he was supposed to be teaching, but as usual, he wasn't. She waited until his footfalls came from the waters edge, then without opening her eyes or moving an inch, sighed exasperatedly. "Aren't you supposed to be teaching, Bane? Do you ever do what you're meant to do?" That dog was almost more trouble that he was worth. Almost.

Bane
I don't regret avoiding duty, no, I regret getting caught
Bane winced as a familiar voice drifted over to him. Yes, Kipcha- the Scrubground feline he had scented. I should have been more quiet... Bane immediately regretted his lack of attentiveness though strangely, no regrets of attempting to avoid teaching came into his mind. He had done it many times before, the only problem with what was happening here that it was the protector who caught him. This could get a larger punishment then usual. Ever since his moving to Scrubground, he had found it hard to adapt to the rules that were so different to his own family's. They had rigid rules and only the parents taught so Bane found it hard to talk to all of the soldiers and gatherers. He had tried, honestly, but it was harder remembering the times he was supposed to meet soldiers and gatherers and over time, he had found himself avoiding teaching the members of Scrubground. It was strange for a Greyhound who usually stuck so rigidly to the rules though it had happened to his surprise. Bane realized how long he had been in silence and now it was clear, he was making up an excuse. His mind raced as he racked his brains for a valid excuse but none came apart from the ones he had used already. Why was he even answering to this cat anyways? A strong wolf should be the leader! Bane shook his head as if to get rid of the unhelpful thought and opened his mouth slowly. "I do...sometimes." Bane purposely avoided the first question, partly because he didn't want to answer it and secondly because both of them knew the answer. A punishment was probably going to come though usually it was the same- 2 extra lessons next week. No big deal, he usually missed four in a week. Bane could not help but let his gaze travel a bit. The leaves are coming out... and that was it, he had lost concentration.

Kipcha Small, but never underestimated.
A guiet sigh escaped Kipcha's lips. The first spots of dirzzle were begining to decend, collecting on the first leaves of spring, then tipping onto the ground below in a cascadng waterfall. The protector remained silent, watching the water on it's long fall to the fall. Very soon she would have to find a more sheltered spot; as a typical cat, she did not like getting her fur wet when she could help it. Without a word she shook her black head had stood, balencing perfectly on the narrow branch, now slightly slipy from the persistant drizzle. Kipcha arched her back, fluffing up her fur and streaching her shoulders. She opened her mouth, revealing her pink toung and ivory fangs again. In a single bound, the protector leaped from her pearch in the tree and landed with a soft thud on the saturated ground below. She shook the droplets of rain from her whiskers and sniffed the air, hoping for the scent of prey. Howerver, the rain had washed away all traces of the secnt. Frowning, Kipcha turned and srtalked of through the trees, her tail raised behind her link a black flag. She ducked and weaved through the scarce undergrowth, making no alowences for Bane's bigger, bulkier frame. The she-cat's small, triangular ears were pricked forward, her eyes scanning the oasis for any signs of life, other than herself and Bane. Suddenly, without any warning, Kipcha stopped dead in her tracks and turned round to make sure the monitor was following. She then turned her petite head back to the old tree they were stanging in front of. Many seasons ago it had been struck by lightening in the middle of a storm. Though the tree had recovered, there was still a small hollow at the base of the tree which was warn and relitivly dry inside. It was there the cat sat, right in the entrance so that Bane would be forced to wait in the rain. "Explain yourself."

Bane
'Tis rainingcats and dogs
Bane sighed as the first few drops began to platter on the dirt around him. Rain wasn't his most favored condition but he could handle it. His fur was fairly short and most of the rain just drizzled down his coat to drip off into the ground. Bane watched Kipcha jump off the tree and make her way through the scrubs though he did not follow immediately. The particular path that Kipcha had chosen was not the widest and Bane would easily get scratched. After look around for a few seconds, Bane sighed and began to plough his way through the prickly scrubs, occasionally cutting his legs. It was certainly harder then it looked and all that he could actually see of Kipcha was her black tail and her head which did not help at all though he made it to the lightning-struck tree a few seconds after her with a few scratches. He watched Kipcha walk into the hollow area and held his tongue firmly as he had been taught when he was young. He had to respect his authority! Bane's mind immediately flashed to avoiding teaching duties but that wasn't really the same...was it? Bane shook the thought away and settled for the simple conclusion that she was purposely being inconsiderate though no change was made in his expression as he already looked moderately displeased. The rain was by now, beating down heavily. Bane shook the water to find that it made no difference. He listened to the two words spoken to him and felt hundreds of feelings flood in at once. His upbringing made him conservative and he barely ever spoke about his feelings but that was his past life. This was what was going on now. And why should he tell a feline out of all animals about his inability to change? Bane almost let a growl of annoyance out but stopped it self-consciously. Opening his mouth, he muttered slowly: "I've been finding it hard to adapt to this lifestyle." Bane, reluctant to speak any more about his feelings, shut it and looked away, the rain blurring his vision. A feline, out of al species, a feline.

Kipcha Must make decisions for everyone.
In the pause that followed her quiet words, Kipcha closed her eyes, allowing herself to drift of for a moment, listening to nothing but the steady patter of rain upon the foliage. The drizzle become harder and harder until it was nothing short of a down pour. Each droplet of clear water splashed onto the leaf mold, shattering like glass into thousands of drops. Far above her, across a hole in the bark, a common garden spider had strung it's web. Fine silvery silk stretched from one side to the other, like a curtain to keep out the rain. A tiny splashes of rain landed on the delicate threads, hanging there and sparkling like a million diamonds. So he's finding it difficult to adapt. Were the she-cats thoughts. Maybe I should have made him feel more welcome... Doubt clawed at Kipcha's fur - tendrils of uncertainty hung on to her limbs, no matter how much she tried to shake them off. But still... That was no excuse for missing out on, even neglecting, his duties! Maybe the others said unpleasant things to him, maybe he said unpleasant thing to them. She could think in circles like this for hours, and not really get anywhere. The protector opened her deep amber eyes, regarding Bane calmly. She took in every detail of his appearance and posture, comparing it to what she knew about him. What is the best way to deal with him? very slowly, and very carefully, so as not to sound brash or insensitive, Kipcha murmured. "It would seem to me, Bane, that you do not take life here seriously enough. We need strong fighters and gatherers, do we not?" She paused, but not for him to answer, as she expected him to remain silent. "I know what I think I should do about this situation, but if you were in my position, and I the one who had been neglecting my duties as Monitor, what would you do? Honest answer?" This would be interesting to hear. Just how alike were they, cat and dog?

Bane
Lift your muzzle and cry to the sky
Bane knew exactly what he'd do if he had the power. He would kick her little keister down to the lowest position there was. Make her learn all the basics of fighting or gathering there were and watch her strive to become monitor again but he was a harsh dog and if he said that to her then there was the possibility that that would happen to him and despite his dislike for their way of life and the animals that he was practically forced to talk to, he didn't want to leave. That was the problem. He had been told to be honest yet if he did just that then he would almost certainly get kicked out. Groaning, Bane lifted his eyes to let the rain fall onto his face. In a way he was happy that it was there as the wall of rain would shield her from seeing any expressions on his face and they would be far from what she was looking for. "Truthfully? I would demote you down to a gatherer or a soldier and make you learn every rule in our code all over again. I've come from somewhere that doesn't accept the behavior that I've shown." Bane looked away groggily though he caught nothing that would distract him. All he could see was the glistening droplets colliding, falling, shattering and settling into the wet mud. Bane paused for a bit and then lifted his head to face her, staring into what he thought were her eyes (he couldn't see through the rain). "However. From where I was from, there would be many others who would want to take my place and they would certainly be capable of it but here... I think I'm the only one who has enough skill to teach the arts of gathering and fighting." He paused before quickly adding, "Apart from you of course but I think you're busy enough looking after the ground already." Bane was unsure whether he had said enough to convince her to let him stay in his position. Either way he was dangerously close to losing it and frankly, at the moment his position was all he had and he was in no mood to lose it and that meant ,unfortunately for him, teaching. Bane was disgruntled and all he could do was stare down at the ground. He didn't want to see her face when she decided what she would do with him. He didn't need this. Well, that's what he thought anyways.

Kipcha Sometimes what is right, is not what we want.
Why was life so complicated? Why couldn't she just find a monitor that would do his job, and let her relax without fretting over it? It would all be so much simpler if one person would just do their job, nice and easy, just to take a little weight of her small shoulders. It was hard to make decisions that would not just affect her life, but those of everyone around her. A monitor that didn't do his job didn't just annoy her; it was a danger to every member of the Scrubground. If they didn't have someone telling them how to improve, how to protect and how to survive, then they wouldn't last four seasons. The summer was approaching, and though there would be more food around, it would be no use if they didn't have the skills to catch it. Keeping her face carefully blank, Kipcha licked one paw and drew it over her ear. Again and again she repeated this motion, until all the flecks of rain were gone and her ear perfectly clean again. The cat did the same to the other ear, apparently in no hurry to give her opinion. As Bane spoke, the cat paused in her grooming. It seemed as if he did know what it took to be a good leader. Finally, after a long silence, she spoke. "Well Bane, it looks like you've condemned yourself. That is exactly what I would do." Another silence while Bane attempted to defend his position. He did have a point, but there was a way round it. Just. "You see Bane, if I had a deputy, then this would be simpler, as I could count on him to take over monitor duties. But I don not, and there is no use wishing for one." The dog was staring at the ground now. "Look at me, Bane." She murmured firmly, buy not unkindly. "I cannot make excuses for you, and I won't. But what I will do is this: you shall continue to teach the others, but the whole time you do, I will be there, looking over your shoulder. Miss one session, and I will demote you to the lowest of the low and you will have to work all day and all night to get even a molecule of my respect back." More work for her, but if it meant that he would learn, then it would be worth it. She wasn't kidding ether. Bane was on his last chance. It was the best she could do.

Bane
Don't let her know of your relief and gratitude
The greyhound could not help but let out a small sigh of relief, grateful for his second chance and for the rain which masked both the sound and sight of his feelings. What did I tell you? You would never get demoted! Bane shook the thought out of his head and tried to fill it instead with the dates and times of the sessions that he thought he would have been able to miss. It was a nuisance but maybe attending more sessions would help him. It was true, they weren't the most enjoyable things but it was better listening to his own voice then someone else's who clearly had less experience then he. Realizing he had not said anything to Kipcha, he paused. In this type of situation, one would usually give her thanks but Bane didn't exactly look forwards to the prospect of giving her more respect then she needed and what she had said to him wasn't exactly looking for a thanks either. However, not acknowledging her 'forgiving' nature wouldn't get him on the right foot. Almost reluctantly, Bane muttered, "You'll see me at all of those sessions." to keep it short yet let her know of his commitment to her words. It was only then that Bane noticed the rain had stopped. The summer winds were blowing in and in the distance he could see the blue skies above the mountains where highground roamed. He wouldn't miss another session and he was sure of it. He couldn't risk his most important attribute.

OCC/ sorry for the wait. i totally forgot about this.
Kipcha A decision: The wrong one?.
The last drops of rain were hitting the ground now, like shattering crystals. The grey clouds were parting to reveal an azure sky, the sun glowing gold. It radiated down, a small diamond shaped patch framing Kipcha's frame and seeping into her fur. Though the sun had finally shown itself after months of waiting behind rainy clouds, the feline still felt a weight of responsibility weighing down on her slender shoulders. Despite the sudden warmth, she shuddered. Had she made the right decision? No. In truth she didn't believe that she had, but there was nothing she could do now. It was all up to him. If he didn't deliver this time then there was nothing she could do. What than irritating dog didn't realize was that it wasn't just her that Bane was upsetting, but the whole ground. They wanted him out, or would do soon if he kept this charade up. Kipcha had protected him this time, but she doubted if she would do it again. And now it is even more important that we have food and solders with this chilling wind. The lack of Fallis' impact had shaken the cat to the core and she really didn't have time to fuss about with people who should be doing their job. "Well you'd better." Was all she said before stalking off into the bushed, her tail low. I know you said short, but that was tiny!
